The Global Information Infrastructure Commission (GIIC)

The Global Information Infrastructure Commission, the global organization that addresses the information revolution as it impacts societies that operate within the global networked economy, held the Asian Regional Conference from July 12 to 14, 2000 at the MalacaƱan Palace, Manila. Representatives from the different member Asian nation participants delivered reports and statements on the conference theme, “Asia in the New Economy: Knowledge as Capital.”

The conference was witness to several landmark activities in Philippine IT history. President Estrada is the first person in Asia to affix his electronic signature on non-commercial documents when he signed the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the Philippine E-commerce Act , the Government Information Systems Plan (GISP) , and the executive order that establishes the Information Technology and Electronic Commerce Council (ITECC).
